The company is Alienware, and so they tweak the system heavily before pumping it into all new builds. They've said that the disk they're installing will have system on it. In a few days they'll be replacing that drive. I'd been having intermittent problems with it and the tech support determined that the SSD is faulty at such a low level as to have escaped repeated initial testing. I bought a new computer about two weeks ago, a mobile desktop replacement, with a 1T SSD boot drive and a 1T spinning disk for storage. I've been imaging with Macrium for over two years, but (happily) have never had to restpre from it.
I hope no one will mind an extremely novice question.
